2010 FISH & GAME NORTH ISLAND SECONDARY SCHOOL CHAMPS
The 2010 North Island Secondary School Clay Target Championships were held in Hamilton Saturday 3rd July.
There were 195 shooters representing 31 schools. With a full programme of DTL and skeet event to be shoot in the one day shooting was scheduled to begin at 8.00am but because of very heavy fog and no wind to blow it away the competition began about 9.00am with the fog still heavy but okay for shooting. The fog hung around till about lunch time when it lifted to lovely sunny but cool conditions with no wind.
The DTL events were over by about 12.30pm and shoot offs for individual points and single barrel got underway while the skeet fields were being set up.
There were 7 possibles in the points but after the first 5 targets only 3 remained, Liam Buchanan, Max Andrews and Scott Verran another 15targets were required to find an overall winner. In the single barrel there were 21 possibles needing 20 targets to get a result. The single rise shoot off was done after the conclusion of the skeet event and the 25 on a possible of 20 needed 105 targets to get a winner. The Fish and Game sponsored Trophy event was run in conjunction with this.
There were 53 entries in the skeet with only 2 competitors on 25, Devon da Silva and Jamie Peryer-Fursden, this shoot off was won by Jamie.
Thanks must go to Dean and his team for who kept the event running smoothly throughout the day. The office staff for keeping the score board up to date for all to see the results as they were completed. Special thanks to Fish and Game for the generous sponsorship of the trophy event and to Kilwell who supplied the ammunition for the teams and single barrel event. Rudi Hoetjes from NZ Fish and Game presented the winners with their trophies and prizes, assisted by Keith Livingstone from NZCTA
