S.I. North Zone Sporting Kerran Jamieson Madden 2010-06-13 13:49
All those that are thinking of going to the North Zone South Island Sporting Champs in Awatere Valley (Blenheim) would you be so kind as to register your intention. The on-line registration is on the Sporting Clay page: http://sporting.nzclaytarget.org.nz/si-nzone-sporting/#more-846. It is not an 'official' registration as such, but rather an indication of numbers that will be attending so the Club can cater, We will be running 4 old style fields, so to get thru we will need to start early both days, some more info will be in the Gunshot, and later on this forum.

Sub Gauge Events at Nationals Hamish Wilson 2010-06-13 13:07
Thanks for your reply Dean.
I understand that outside the mandated events you can, as a host club, run any event in the build up to the Nationals.

Perhaps it's time for a serious look at the mandated program.

As the sport is evolving and becoming more and more popular perhaps the program should be expanded to inclue all events such as 410 and a 28g match. Next year we might not be as lucky to have a 400 target NSSA shoot the weekend before.

How about adding the 20g to the Highgun and adding the 410 and 28g as National Championship events??

Reply from Dean Everett, President, Waikato Clay Target Club:

Regarding Sub Gauge events at 2010 New Zealand Skeet Nationals to be held at Waikato Clay Target Club from 23th Nov – 28th Nov 2010.

The program for NZ National Championships is set by NZCTA council and consists of 20g National Championship on Wed, a 100 tgt Skeet Nth Sth qualifying on Thurs, National Handicap Championship on Fri, National Skeet on Sat, and National Doubles on Sun.

Host clubs determine any other events that they choose to run prior to Nationals starting.

This year at Waikato Clay Target Club, we are working with Thames Clay Target Club who will be hosting an Sub Gauge extravaganza, including all sub gauge events, on the weekend prior to the Nationals starting. Waikato Clay Target Club will then have two trophy matches on Tuesday which will be 50 targets 20g Skeet Trophy, which we see as an eye opener for the National Championship the following day, plus a 50 target Doubles trophy event – you can never have enough doubles.

Some of the thought about having 20g and Doubles is that most shooters are able to participate in this event, we are considering Australians travelling across to compete in our events, and want to give them maximum opportunity to compete on Waikato Clay Target grounds.

Thames Clay Target Club has just become registered as a NSSA ground, so any targets shot in sub gauges there will be able to be registered with NSSA, this was seen to be the best solution for promoting Sub gauge events and sharing the load of running major events.

Look forward to seeing you at Waikato Clay Target Club, please be early as entry could be limited due to time constraints.

Regards

Dean Everett

President

Waikato Clay Target Club.

2010 Skeet Nationals Hamish Wilson 2010-05-31 20:23
I must say that I read with disappointment the proposed programme for the 2010 Skeet Nationals. What has become of the 410 and 28g events?? Some may argue that these are novelty events but to those that look forward to the Nationals each year, will be as disappointed as I am to see they have been omitted from the programme.

Why have they been omitted??

I wonder the merits of having two 50 target doubles matches as opposed to have the sub gauge events. And further to that two 20g events?

Are we that out of tune with the rest of the world that we think that this is a progressive move within the sport. With the ground swell in NSSA shooters within Australasia and the greater NSSA "zone 8" surely we are be a little short sighted with this programme.

How are we able to encourage interest in the sub gauge events if they are removed from the programme. At the 2009 Skeet Nationals there was surprise at the number that supported the sub gauge events.

Is there any chance that this can be re visited?

I have been asked by Scott Stonex of Reloaders Supplies to post the sad news that Ron Dent passed away yesterday on 5th May after a short illness.
Ron was a "big" man in every sense, generous to a fault in his support of clay target shooting.
He will be sorely missed.

Dear friend shooters, You have entered the World Sporting championship which takes place in Warrnambool, Australia from November 19th to 22nd, 2009 and we congratulate you for your participation!
Due to a decision of the Australian Government, competitors in the 2009 FITASC Sporting World Championships will not be allowed to import Semi-Automatic Shotguns into Australia. This decision was received on 12th August 2009 from The Australian Minister for Home Affairs.

Non Australian competitors are reminded that they must complete two applications for entry of themselves and their firearms into Australia:

1 INTERNATIONAL VISITORS FIREARMS PERMIT
This form is available on the FITASC Sporting World Championships website under GUNS & AMMO.
It must be sent either by fax or by email direct to:

Victorian Firearms Licencing Services
Email :licensingservices@police.vic.gov.au
Facsimile +61 3 9247 6485

2 PERSONAL AND FIREARMS DETAILS TO BE FORWARDED FOR AUSTRALIAN CUSTOMS
This form is also available on the FITASC website and must be forwarded either by fax or by email to:

Mr Ray McFarlane
Email: raymcf@pipeline.com.au
Facsimile + 61-3-52502173

They must be forwarded at least 6 weeks prior to the competition to allow for processing, so before October 1st 2009.
We inform you that any entry cancellation of non Australian shooters, received at Fitasc by September 7th, owing to the banning from importing semi-automatic shotguns, will be entitled to a total refund of the entry.

Yours in sport.

ISSF events at Zones Adrienne Sears 2009-06-16 11:44
From NZCTA Keith Livingstone Director ISSF;

Following consultation between clubs with ISSF facilities and NZSF, the NZCTA executive has temporarily suspended double trap and ISSF skeet from all zone matches only from 1/1/10 until competitor numbers increase at future ISSF competitions.

ISSF skeet can be reinstated from 1/1/10 if sufficient numbers of athletes commit to competing in this discipline at specific zone matches and at forthcoming ISSF matches in 2009.

Would any competitor new or existing interested in ISSF skeet in the future please contact Paul Wilson (021 458701), who is compiling a list of future competitors, and if sufficient numbers of competitors voice their opinion, the NZCTA executive will review its position.

Similarly if any potential double trap competitors show any interest they should contact myself and the same position will apply.

Oceania Cup results Kerran Jamieson Madden 2009-04-16 10:19
Congratulations to Dave Alley 5th., in the open section, and Robbie Smith 3rd. in Super Vets, in the FITASC Oceania Cup. The Oceania Cup is contested annually between the Grand Prix of Australia and the Oceania Championship recently held in Rotorua. It is invisiged that N.Z, will be holding a Grand Prix next year allowing local shooters a better chance to compete. One will be able to choose between Grand Prix's but it will be compulsory to shoot the Oceania match. Again congratulations a huge effort against the best of Oceania.

Oceania '09 Kerran Jamieson Madden 2009-04-03 12:48
Just a public comment to thank Rotorua G.C. for the absolutely superb effort during last weeks Oceania Sporting event. To say it was a success would be an understatement, it would have to rate as one of the best Sporting shoots N.Z. has ever hosted. 171 shooters lined up for 8 old style FITASC Parcour’s with targets ranging from 3 metres to 60-70+ and not one flying straight or level. A sporting purists dream. New club house extensions, you could smell the fresh paint, new bar and kitchen and a large new deck out front, an absolute credit to Geoff x 2, Tony, Lindsay and Kersty, Mike and son Wayne and John B. Tony Truss’s hand scroll written scoreboard typical of the attention to detail this shoot was about.
A special thanks to Ray McFarlane (FITASC Vice President) who came over a few days early and helped Geoff, Rob Currathers and myself with the final target settings (the Club members had done all the hard work and had traps on every hillside and in every gully all over the place) it was a real pleasure to work with Ray, he has forgotten more than we have ever learnt, and his little subtleties with traps and menu settings was a great lesson for us for the future. It made my week.
Not one aspect of the event from food, bar, shelter, seating, targets and signage could be faulted. I think the Aussies arrived thinking they knew how to run a good event and left, winners Oh yes!!, but thinking they had to play catch up to top this shoot next year in South Australia.

Shooters attending the 5-stand and Sporting Clay Nationals PLEASE don't forget to bring your handicap books and firearm licences's. Any shooter attending without their book will automatically be put in the top class for that event as per the rules, no agruement, no exceptions. TVDA have been working tirelessly for months on this event, new traps, virgin ground and new targets set with the help of Albie Hansen and the TVDA crew. There are over 100 shooters entered for the main events with a good showing from Aussie, it's not to late to enter.

Woodville 200 DTL shoot Ray Russell 2009-01-15 14:20
The ad in Gunshot for the Woodville Clay Target Club shoot sponsored by Target Products on Sunday 1 February is wrong. The shoot is 200 targets (not 100) shot in 4 lots of 50 targets. There is a $2 sweep on each 50 and over the 200. Sashes for all grades. My phone number is also wrong - it should read 06 354 7284. Look forward to seeing lots of happy shooters.
